Summer's gone

I cycled through the park yesterday, the first time in about ten days. It seems like ten weeks though, The flowers are all gone, the weather is bitingly cold in the shade and the squirrels are very busy gathering moss for their nests (dreys) and scurrying around with chestnuts in their mouths. I fed them extra nuts and they buried them. I wonder how they remember where they buried them?
It'll be a strange winter for me. It's been a strange summer, one I'll remember for the weekdays cycling through the park.
I visited Derby on Tuesday to view an auction. I've also been taking cards round hotels, trying to drum up a little business.
And I cooked last night and finally used the blender I bought yonks ago. I made avocado sauce to go with some salmon. I'm going to make soup because it's soup making weather these days.

On Tuesday, as I drove back from Derby, I listened to Radio 2. I heard some great show songs from the forties, it was a programme on Irving Berlin. Then, Mark Radcliff and Stuart Maconi were on, playing great stuff like Search And Destroy by the Stooges, been ages since I heard that.
The next programme after them? The Organist Entertains. Wow! what a healthy mix of so much different music. I've often said Radio 2 is great entertainment at night. You don't want to go near it in the day though! It sounds like radio 1 circa 1984!

They break the shell, rub them on their face and lick them. This gives the nuts a nice pong that they can later find even when buried.

At least thats what is meant to happen, quite a few nuts remain buried.
