I've bought the NME only a couple of times in recent years. Both times because Morrissey is in it and he makes for such good reading. Last week he was banging on about immigration. I couldn't find anything remotely 'racist' in his words, although I felt they were a little naive.
To be honest, he came across as a bit of a grump. More depressing to me, was his statement that "there is no good music out there". In the old days, he'd have spent pages championing his latest fave sounds. But things change, and even the beloved NME of the eighties is replaced by the smaller, glossy, Smash Hits style magazine designed for today's short attention span youth,
(now who's coming across like a grump?)
Anyway, moans aside, Morrissey is still as unique as ever, and I still see him as a slightly misguided breath of fresh air.
Julian Cope has some interesting thoughts on the whole thing in his drudion newsletter. Google Head Heritage and you'll get to his very good website, (the forums there provide a healthy antidote to the rather picky pop star forums I visit these days).
I'm rambling. . . oh, and Morrissey pic by me, Birmingham last year. Bore or not, it was a great gig!

It's been quite a year. I'll do a year review soon. In the meantime, here's a pic of me in February in Iowa, at the crash site where Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens died in 1959.
