Life's a beach

Look! There's me in 2006 in Turkey. Just after 'first contact'. People visiting the old weblog might remember my eclipse excursion nearly two years ago. It was splendid.
On the first of August this year - this time next week in fact, there will be another solar eclipse. The first since the 2006 beauty. I had planned to go, (russia this time!) because I've seen two (France 1999 and Turkey 2006) and they are things of great spectacle and wonder

I'm not going because it would cost over a thousand pounds, perhaps two . . and whilst I'm building up my teaching & playing business, it would just not be viable at the moment. Gah!
But I made a vow on that beach there, under the soon to be hidden sun, just yards from the Mediterranean lapping only slightly, that I would see every eclipse in my lifetime. But it ain't gonna happen is it? I have no right to feel hard done to, because I could have gone, and I have things planned that weekend that will also be cosmic and wondrous (it's the pagan festival of Lammas don't you know?).

But oh to be in the moon's shadow just once more!
