Went to an 'open mic' night last night. Sometimes these can be fun, sometimes you see some great talent, and sometimes they are terrible, as people that shouldn't be allowed near a stage are trotted out to strangle cats and torture guitars like a wooden spoon banging a tin bucket.
Last night's was a strange one because the average age was about 20, and I felt a little bit like Uncle Albert at a Kylie concert. I'd also rushed to get ready and felt like Worzel Gummage. Pah!
It was great to see people playing live of course, even if it was the over-earnest guitar strumming teen angst Coldplay type of stuff I despise. But good on 'em for doing it, though we didn't stick around.
Besides, it was a larger only place. Not good!

After watching Quantum Of Solace again, I'm afraid I'm getting bored of the gritty 'naughties' Bond.
See, I don't like him in these new movies. He's not the hero you want to be anymore. He's a thug and although the films have higher production values and are swish and sexy and portray modern 'glam', James Bond himself is rubbish. I don't mean he's rubbish as in naff, he's just not the old movie Bond. He might be a tough man and a man that modern men who watch Top Gear want to be, but he ain't movie Bond to me.
And he's not even the literary Bond. And trust me, I've spent much more time reading Ian Fleming than watching Bond movies, I know my stuff. And although the book Bond is 'a tortured soul and complex' and all that, he's not the Daniel Craig Bond.
The current movies are high on style but pretty soulless affairs. Our old hero Bond is killing with glee and anger, and that's not what made me like the screen Bond.
Plus, the editing on QOS makes it impossible to know what's going on, and the plot is unfathomable.
