(you'd have to be me to understand).
It was my birthday last week, the one Elvis never had (you work it out!), I started the Bunnymen diet then. The first gig will be in a month, and if I haven't lost a few pound I might as well resign myself to being in my fat Elvis period. Next stop the Meditation Garden.
What a thought!
Speaking of gigs, here's old rocker Jerry Lee Lewis. This is the last time I saw him, in Amsterdam last year.
Jerry Lee is something of an obsession with me. He's the last of the great fifties rockers that still summons up the fire and brimstone of the fifties golden era of shakin' and breakin'.He was fantastic last year, I managed to catch two shows. It had been a couple of years since I'd seen him and I expected him to have slowed down. Not so - he was as good as ever and I wondered how long he'd go on surprising me. Surely he can't last forever?
A Jerry Lee show is something of a ritual for me. For a fifties rock & roll fan it's the best place to be in the world at that moment. As long as Jerry Lee is still rocking, Sun records isn't a museum, and it's the nearest I'll get to feeling the real pulse of the musical revolution in fifties America.
Coolest!
I'll see him again in Europe in November. It'll be the 20th Jerry Lee show I've seen. How's that for obsessive?

Started back at the school today. Teaching children music. I walk down the corridors and kids are going 'Hello Mr Harvey' and it feels strange. I wouldn't swop it for the world.
Got loads of private lessons too, it's going great, and almost everyone I teach is sound as a pound.
