Talk

The first time I visited the stone circles of Derbyshire was 1991 or therabouts. I remember that day like it way a week last Friday. I took my girlfriend and we listened to a shite Psychedelic Furs album called Mirror Moves. All synth pop and naffness. But I still liked it because I loved their first two albums and I liked the singer and I was hunting stone circles anyway.
Yea, Mirror Moves reminds me of Doll Tor stone circle. Music and monuments.

Going back to a girlfriend before that, Pam . . jeez. I think it was a Wednesday night. She wanted to see me, I wanted to be on my own, (I'm like that). . she threatened to come down anyway and be a pest so I fucked off in my orange Allegro all angry with a tape of the Fur's Talk Talk Talk.

I drove around for ages playing that and thinking about stuff and ended up walking around Tong churchyard. This would have been what? 1986? I was twenty.

I'm soooo old.

When I was looking for a place to live, my proper 'leaving home' pad in the early nineties. . I was listening to a lot of Furs music. Richard Butler, the singer, was wearing stripey T-shirts with a black jacket. I adopted that same look for a few years.
About twenty years, to be honest. Perhaps eighteen and a half years too long.

I still love the first two albums, and the last two. And the Furs haven't toured the UK since I last saw them in 1991. At Leicester Poly. I loved that gig.
Did I mention I'm so incredibly old?
And I've often thought I'd like to see the Furs again. Especially since last year, when I seemed to be seeing nothing but eighties post-punkers playing to people who had just recovered from their forty seventh birthday parties. If I can go and see Morrissey, Echo & The Bunnymen & PiL then why not the Psychedelic Furs, eh?

Why not?
