Fog

I bought the Guardian the other day. Because it had a free Godzilla DVD. And there was a fascinating piece on Robbie Williams.
Now I don't know much about him, except a few songs and he's dead famous and popular, but he's into UFOs big style now. And goes to conventions to meet abductees and everything!
The piece reads like he's bored of fame, the tabloids and all that silliness, and his interests and passions now lie in UFOlogy.
I think this can happen to famous people. Like, you've got thousands up on thousands screaming after you at Knebworth, and then you're back in your room and thinking "what the hell's it all about?". Elvis did his nonsense numerology stuff, the Beatles did their Maharashi whatever. . I wonder if a desire for some spirituality is a consequence of mass adoration?
Anyway. Robbie's having fun, and good luck to him. And at least UFOs are a lot more fun than 'getting religion!'

Today's stint at the Steinway at the country club went swimmingly. There were almost a hundred there and loads said how much they enjoyed my playing. So that's me with a swelled head and the piano lid up looking dead posh.
Before I started there five years ago, the piano player was a Mr Wilkes. He was there almost twenty years. He died last year, and his wife has given me some of his music. Which is really sweet. She was there today.
One guy gave me three quid and said "go and buy yourself a pint of lager".
Lager? Yuk!
Nice to get a tip, but where did he get lager from?
Last night I played at a wedding, but it wasn't much fun. Once the kids start sliding across the floor you know it's going to be a shitty gig. It paid well though. --
Just been up the Wrekin, and how apt I was playing the Velvet Underground's Foggy Notion on my ipod whilst up there, it was a real pea-souper today, (as I eat my spicy lentil soup, as it happens).
Super!

Thursday Julie & I played the nice Bistro. They're advertising us as 'resident pianist and singer' which is quite nice. We did loads, from Sinatra to the Smiths. From Jerry Lee to Peggy Lee.

I've just learned Iggy Pop is 61 tomorrow. Wow! Seen him a few times over the years. Three or four times at least. He stopped making great new music a while back, but his shows were always amazing to see.
